The Barn at Black Isle Berries

A spacious self-catering house for up to 12 guests on a working fruit farm, 10 minutes from Inverness.

Your base on the Black Isle

The Barn sits on Ryefield Farm at Tore, where our family has grown fruit for since 1999. Built in 2015 on the footprint of an old farm shed, it started life as a bunkhouse. It has since become a comfortable six-bedroom house, ideal for extended families and groups of friends.

Our farm shop is right next door and open daily, 9am to 6pm. Fresh bread, home baking, local meat, cheese, eggs and our own fruit and apple juice are a few steps away. In summer you can pick your own. The shop is busy by day during fruit season, but once it closes at 6pm, peace descends on the farm.

Inverness is 10 minutes' drive away and Inverness Airport 30 minutes.

Rooms

Six bedrooms (two super king, four twin), four shower rooms and a separate WC.

Ground floor

  • Open-plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen

  • Dundonnell – super king bedroom with an accessible ensuite shower room

  • Grudie – twin bedroom

  • A further twin bedroom

  • Shower room, separate WC and utility room

First floor

  • Black Water – super king bedroom

  • Moriston and Lael – twin bedrooms

  • Two shower rooms each with a large walk-in shower, two toilets and two basins

Dundonnell and Black Water can each be made up as twins; just let us know when you book.

What's included

Warmth and comfort: underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs. Bed linen, towels, heating and electricity are all included (electric car charging is not).

Kitchen: electric double oven, grill and hob, microwave, rice cooker, two kettles, toaster, larder fridge-freezer and full-size dishwasher.

Staying connected: fast wifi, a 43-inch smart TV and USB sockets throughout, including in the bedside lamps.

After a day out: washing machine, a large separate drying room for wet boots and jackets, and ample parking.

For quieter days: games, jigsaws and books for adults and children.

Exploring the area

The Black Isle has plenty on the doorstep:

  • mountain biking at Learnie Red Rock

  • fishing and dolphin trips from Cromarty and Avoch

  • dolphin watching from the shore at Chanonry Point

  • museums in Cromarty and Rosemarkie

  • walks to suit every ability

The A9 is close by, so much of the Highlands is within reach for day trips.

Good to know

  • Minimum stay 3 nights

  • Check-in from 4pm; check-out by 10am

  • The lead booker must be 21 or over and is responsible for the behaviour of everyone staying at or visiting The Barn. For work bookings, the organisation shares that responsibility.

  • No pets, no smoking or vaping, and no stag or hen parties

  • We may charge up to £300 for damage or extra cleaning

  • Closed over Christmas and New Year
